Description

Here's a weird one for ya'all . . . Took this several years ago along the Atlantic Coast in Acadia National Park, Maine. The place is called Thunder Hole, named for the crashing noise waves make as they slam into a small sea cave at the base of a cliff, shooting water into the air as high as 40 feet. I did a twenty minute exposure to record stars in the sky, and fired a few flash bursts, with alternating red and yellow gels, to freeze the action of a few crashing waves. I used a blue gel on the flash to light up the background cliffs. Big crashing waves sent water splashing down on my camera, so I had to cover it momentarily each time. Because I used a really wide angle lens to capture the scene, scale gets a little lost of this one. The cliffs in the background are about 40 feet high, and each wave was about 20-30 feet high.
