While searching for photos in the Nevada desert, one evening everything lined up perfectly—the composition, the still air, the otherworldly colors of twilight glow, the branches of a lone Joshua tree reaching for the heavens above, a supplicant for divine intervention. It is said that the prophet Joshua, for whom the tree is named, prayed for the sun to stop. It seemed that the prayer was answered this very evening; a stillness clung to the desert, and the gloaming paused for a moment, just long enough for me to get the shot. And then the moment was gone; the sun resumed its retreat, and I was left with nothing but darkness and the pungent fragrance of crushed mesquite in the air. Read more on my blog . . . [link]

I am waiting for my moments to start happening... And turn from a 'family photographer' to at least a decent one.

I love how you can make something out of nothing, I would have probably walked right past this.

Brings back memories of almost killing myself climbing a hill in the Joshua Tree national park. I thought I was reasonably fit...

My own attempts at photographing the trees fell flat. I was working in california for a while and had gone out to the park a few times and was utterly captivated by it. I couldn't explain what I was seeing to people so I thought I would take some photographs on my last weekend. I had to buy a camera but I didn't have much money plus when I got there it was overcast and the light was really flat - the sad results are somewhere in my gallery.

Still, I love the desert.
